As part of International Plastic Bag Free Day, Grupo SID held an awareness campaign in nine partner stores, encouraging people to change their habits in favor of the environment and sustainability.
As a symbolic act, the initiative consisted of distributing more than 10,000 reusable bags to customers who shopped at El Nacional, Amigo, City Market, Super Mix, and Garrido supermarkets, regardless of the brand they purchased. Each bag, illustrated with exclusive artwork by artist Kilia Llano, features a QR code that links to an informational space on the Grupo SID website, where consumers can learn more about the importance of this day and the impact of the excessive use of single-use plastic bags.
“Your decisions matter. Choose to reuse.” is the central message of this campaign, which highlights the importance of adopting more responsible consumer habits. During the event, relevant information was shared to raise awareness about this issue. According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), a plastic bag is used on average between 12 and 25 minutes, but it can take between 500 and 1,000 years to degrade, and less than 9% of these bags are recycled. In contrast, a reusable bag can replace up to 600 plastic bags over its lifetime, making a concrete contribution to reducing waste and protecting ecosystems.
With this activity, Grupo SID reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and promoting responsible consumption, emphasizing that change begins with small actions and that together we can build a more sustainable future.

About International Plastic Bag Free Day
International Plastic Bag Free Day is celebrated every year on July 3rd. The goal is to reduce single-use plastic bags and encourage responsible consumption, given the harm they cause to the environment and living beings. Most of these bags are not reused or recycled, but are immediately discarded, ending up in landfills or the ocean.
